Jiribam, January 15 2013:
Even as tension ran high in Jiribam over the arrest of a man by security forces, an assaulted apprehended man has been admitted to Jiribam CHC for treatment.
Normal life in Jiribam came to a grinding halt since noon today over the incident.
According to information received by the press, a man identified as Moirangthem Bijen (41) s/o (L) Babachand of Jiribam Dibong Awang Leikai was picked up by a column of Assam Rifles personnel from near the Irabot statue located 0km off Jiribam.
The personnel came to Jiribam PS to hand over the arrested man today.
When the AR team, along with the arrested man, approached Jiribam PS, a number of Jiri women folk attempted to snatch the man from the AR's vehicle saying he was innocent.

A fierce confrontation between women folks and security forces ensued when the Meira Paibis attempted to snatch the arrested man.
The police have opened tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
Amidst the din, the AR personnel managed to take Bijen to the PS which only led the womenfolk to storm the police station.
Later, Bijen was taken to Jiri CHC for treatment.
Meira Paibis said Bijen was not only an innocent civilian, but also a ward member of Jiribam Ward No 10.He also run an electronic store as a means to supplement his income.
They also vented their angst that the AR personnel had more often than not resorted to arresting and harassing of civilians in Jiri area.
