Imphal, January 15 2013:
The Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur has pledged to endorse the general strike called by ATSUM which is slated to begin from midnight of January 18 on several demands.
Announcing this in a press statement, ZSUM chairman D Stephen Zeme said the genuine issues being put up by ATSUM on behalf of the tribal people is praiseworthy and ZSUM would extend its fullest cooperation in all possible means to the ATSUM physically, financially, morally and would work hand in hand with ATSUM till the demands are fulfilled.
The ZSUM also regretted that some tribal students' organisations are opposing the move of ATSUM even after knowing well the fact that tribal's rights are deliberately manipulated by the State Govt.Though many tribal organisations have felt the need to assert tribal's rights on several occasions, the tribal people of the State are divided when it comes to working collectively for the tribal causes due to selfishness, the ZSUM pointed out.
The Zeliangrong students' body also appealed all tribal people of the State, particularly the Zeliangrongs, to extend cooperation to ATSUM during its 24-hour bandh beginning midnight of January 18 .
It further cautioned that any violator of the bandh should bear the risk at their own.
