Saying that construction work of Komlakhong Water Sports Complex has been completed by 80 per cent, Ratankumar informed that bamboo fencing work is also nearing completion so that phumdis cannot enter the canal after they have been removed.
It is expected that 800 to 1000 players belonging to 40 different teams would take part in the championship.
The playing coming from outside the State would be accommodated at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex from where they would be brought to Komlakhong by bus.
The team led by the Works Minister also visited Takmu Water Sports Complex where Manipuri players who would be competing in the championship have been training.
There he distributed track suits to all the players.
The State players would be given opportunity to train themselves at Komlakhong Water Sports Complex once its construction work is completed, Ratankumar said.
The team then rode motor-boats and made spot assessment of the areas where permanent floating stations would be built for the inland water transport network which would cover Takmu, Thanga, Sendra, Toupokpi, Karang, Phubala, Komlakhong etc.
Once the inland water transport system becomes functional, it would not only facilitate movement of people and goods in and around Loktak lake but also help in economic alleviation of the people residing within the area, he added.
