Imphal, May 14 2010:
The Kuki Students' Organisation, General Headquarter today expressed discontented over the repeated implication of the ATSUM (All Tribal Students Union Manipur) leaders sating that it done "at the behest of some vested individuals".
"As per our understanding, the ATSUM is not very much in favour of the ADC election as per 2008 (amended) version but has refrain from directly participating in the present agitation spearheaded by ANSAM (All Naga Students Association Manipur) as there is no consensus among its federating units," the statement signed by general secretary of KSO, Lalrobul said.
It also appealed all concern including the media to stop mentioning ATSUM in connection with the present crisis henceforth.
KSO was shocked with the clarification reacting to the Gauhati High Court (Imphal Bench) directive to apprehend the ATSUM leader simultaneously on May 6 and May 13 last through newspapers and condemned the PIL filed by RK Joysana and Advocate Hemchandra without first going through the ground realities before taking up such a hasty step.
"The court summon to the ATSUM president to appear in the court before May 20 is a total disregard of the voice of the tribal people," it observed.
The two litigants had taken a ride for the benefit of the public making ATSUM a scapegoat over the failure of the government to solve the impasse arising out of the present crisis, the statement issued by the KSO in conjunction with the ATSUM's clarification that the leaders of ATSUM including its president, Thomas Taisya are not involved in the present economic blockade.
If this clarification remained unheeded the KSO in solidarity with ATSUM would be compelled to initiate drastic measures which would not be in the interest of the state of Manipur, it warned.
The statement also expressed its condolence over the killing of two students at Mao on May 6 last.
