Imphal, May 14 2010:
Even as the Joint Administrative Council of All Manipur Trade Union Congress and All Manipur Government Employees' Organisation (JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO) has claimed that the employees' unity can never be broken by the Chief Minister's warning and threat and that the ceasework strike would be strengthened all the more, there is already a split in the unity of the employees.
The Manipur Secretariat Services Association (MSSA) and the Manipur Secretariat Non-Ministerial Drivers' Association (MSDA) have suspended their ceasework strike, and will resume duty from tomorrow onwards as usual.
The decision to suspend the Secretariat employees' ceasework strike was taken during a nearly two hour-long meeting between the Chief Minister, O Ibobi and a 13-member delegation of the two Secretariat employees' associations held at the office chamber of the Chief Minister from 6.15 pm to 8 pm today.
Secretary to Chief Minister, PK Singh was also present at the meeting.
Announcing the two associations' stand in a press release, Nepram Lenindra, president of MSSA said that the Chief Minister and the delegates of the two associations had thorough disscussions, and agreed to suspend the ceasework strike for some time in view of the prevailing situations in the state.
He appealed to the employees of the Secretariat to start attending office and resume duty from tomorrow onwards as usual.
He told this newspaper that the Chief Minister has given his assurance that the government would try to pay some arrears after the elections to the Autonomous District Councils are over.
Meanwhile, Secretary of MSSA, Purujit Lairikyengbam, who had been arrested and jailed in connection with the ceasework strike, has been released this evening.
He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal, BK Sharma at his residence by Manipur Police.
All cases against him had been returned.
