Six police officers including one inspector of Delhi Police and five officers of Manipur Police, involved in various counter insurgency operations under the control of 57th Mountain Division have been honoured with the Eastern Army Commander's Commendation Card, 2009 during an investiture ceremony at the Red Shield auditorium at Leimakhong today.
The five State police officers who have been honoured with the Eastern Army Commander's Commendation Card, 2009 are SP of Bishnupur District Jayanta Singh; Officer in charge of Commandos, Bishnupur district Inspector Maibam Sudhirkumar Meitei; Inspector of Bishnupur Police Commandos Sougrakpam Chandrakumar, Sub-Inspector of Bishnupur Police Commandos Potshangbam Sanjoy Singh and Sub-Inspector of Bishnupur Police Commandos BL Vaiphei while the officer of the Delhi Police who was also honoured at the occasion has been identified as Encounter Specialist Inspector Krishan Giri.
GOC 57 Mountain Division Maj Gen Shakti Gurung handed over the recommendation cards consisting of certificates, scrolls, badges and other gifts to the recipients in recognition of their role in arresting top UG leaders including City Meetei of KCP from various metropolitan cities of the country as well as in counter insurgency operations like Loktak Vijay Operation Grand Slam, Summer Storm and the recent Operation Thunderbolt.
Speaking at the occasion, Maj Gen Shakti Gurung stressed on the need for peace and security to prevail for development of Manipur and thanked the police and civil administration for all the assistance and support provided to the 57 Mountain Division.
Reaching out to the misguided youth who have been forced to join UG groups at tender age while their leaders live in luxurious lives in foreign countries and big metro cities, the GOC exhorted them to accept the Government's surrender policy.
This would give them a second chance to live a normal life with their parents and children, he assured.
