Intensifying agitation against Government process to acquire more land for the construction of Capitol Project, a public rally organised by the JAC, Against The Eviction of Lei-ingkhol was taken out today to denounce Govt decision to evict residents of Lei-ingkhol area.
The rally began at round 11 am and marched towards the Chief Minister's Bungalow.
However the rallyist were prevented from marching further near the Imphal head post office by police personnel who rushed to the scene on receiving reports about the rally: The rally was also supported by Kanglamei, IPSA and Mapi Council.
After a heated argument, the security personnel finally yielded to the demand of the protesters and allowed four representatives of the JAC to meet the Chief Minister at the later's official bungalow.
Speaking to mediapersons after meeting with the Chief Minister, JAC president L Ibomcha said that Chief Minister had informed that Govt has no plans to build the Civil Secretariat and High Court Complex at the Lei-ingkhol area as the Govt had not taken any final decision on the matter.
It may be noted here that the State Cabinet in two different sittings had passed resolutions for the construction of Civil Secretariat and High Court at Lei-ingkhol area.
Elaborating more on the meeting, he said that the Chief Minister also informed that the State Govt has not been able to make any concrete decision on the matter as the PWD, Agriculture, Medical and Revenue Dept have failed to submit their report on the issue.
The Chief Minister also assured to personally look into the matter within the shortest possible time, he added.
