The Committee on Public Accounts of the Manipur Assembly came across several instances of unsatisfactory fund management when a three member team of the House panel toured/inspected Government schools located in Chandel district, according to the Committee Chairman in-charge Dr Nimaichand Luwang.
Interacting with newspersons at the Committee Room of the Manipur Legislative Assembly this afternoon, the MPP MLA claimed that fund released for construction of school buildings at Chandel district and the existing structures do not commensurate at all.
Elaborating on the contention, he said out of Rs 6 lakhs released for building construction of Tuesen Primary School, windows and doors were sub-standard, improper wall plaster and ground work besides absence of white wash.
When queried whether cooked food was provided to the school children as envisaged by the mid-day meal scheme, the opposition MLA replied in the negative.
The three committee members - E Biramani, Y Irabot and S Chandra also headed for Liwachaning Primary School, said Dr Luwang and conveyed that building construction was incomplete despite Rs 30 lakhs being released for the purpose.
Such laxity on the part of the construction agency bad dissuaded parents from admitting their wards at the school, observed Dr Luwang.
On the brighter side the visiting team was impressed with Lamka Khunou Primary School where class rooms were found to be tidy and lessons imparted in appreciable manner with three teachers conducting classes in the institute having class I-III standard, claimed Dr Nimaichand.
