Clarifying that the trucks seized by the 37 AR personnel at Khudengtabi yesterday morning was neither his nor belonged to the Public Account Committee, MLA Biramani said that the DO letter found inside the seized truck was given to one of his cousin brother for transporting timbers from Moreh and not for any other purpose.
Mention may be made here that 37 AR personnel had detained a truck carrying illegal items along the Imphal-Moreh route with a DO letter from MLA Biramani a Khudengtabi yesterday morning.
Elaborating on the incident, MLA Biramani informed that he along with a four member team of the Public Accounts Committee had gone to Moreh on April 27 for conducting spot verification in some of the schools located at Chandel Dist.
On April 28, MLA Biramai met one of his cousin brother identified as E Imobi at Moreh who approached him and asked him if could use one of the Committee's trucks for transporting timber to Imphal on their way back.
Biramani further said that Imobi agreed to hire another vehicle as he refused to let him use the Committee's vehicle.
However, a DO letter was issued to allow him to move freely without any problems on the Imphal-Moreh route, he added.
On the morning of April 29, the two vehicles of the Committee were asked to leave prior to the officiat team as it was carrying all the luggage of the officials, said Biramani adding that when the offical team in another vehicle reached Khudengtabi after a while, found the two vehicles along with another unknown truck parked in front of an army check post with the army personnel checking the committee's vehicles.
The officials immediately approached the AR personnel and after identifying themselves demanded to let the vehicles go.
As discussion was going on with the AR personnel, some of the jawans who were checking the unknown truck which was parked at the back of the committee's vehicles, found some two inch mortar bombs and detonators inside the truck.
Following the seizure, the AR personnel arrested the truck's driver and E Imobi who hired the truck.
On further checking, a DO letter signed by him was recovered from Imobi, said MLA Biramani.
