In view of the threat on lives of MLAs following the KCP threat to target the legislators on the Meetei Mayek issue, arrangement is being made to extend personal security cover to all the 60 MLAs after detailed assessment of the threat perception.
It may be recalled that the underground KCP charging Government inaction as main factor for the Mayek impasse had asked the legislators to spell out their position failing which they (MLAs) would be targeted from May 1 onwards.
Declining further details on the proposed security step, informed source said all possible measures to prevent any untoward incident have been taken.
A high ranking police department officer, preferring anonymity, conveyed that the police department is closely monitoring the situation.
Another source in the Home Department contended that State DGP had been asked to assess the threat perception from all angle and provide necessary security cover in adequate strength to the MLAs.
Info link-up: The Department of Information & Public Relation will be interlinked with the Chief Minister's Secretariat, Manipur Secretariat (Old Block), Police Headquarters and Imphal Police Station through setting up of local area network system.
