Imphal, November 16 2009:
Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) today submitted a memorandum to Governor Gurbachan Jagat through Senapati DC to press the State Government for immediate initiation of action to improve the condition of NH-39 .
SDSA also warned that the students' body would intensify its democratic agitation if their demand is not fulfilled.
The memorandum said that SDSA signed an MoU with the State Government to suspend the economic blockade in November 24 last year.
But the State Government had failed to honour the terms of the MoU, the memorandum added.
Again in July/August agitation, Union Home Secretary GK Pillai assured SDSA representatives that NH-39 funds would be sanctioned within two weeks ie by August 22 and full repairing would be done within 2009, the representation said.
While SDSA stands strongly committed to the MoU and assurance the students body condemns the Cabinet decision to hand over NH-39 to State PWD, the memorandum added.
The memorandum also demanded for immediate handing over of the highway to BRO at the earliest.
