Two self help groups have been formed today as a part of the four-day long workshop on women empowerment under the aegis of Manipur State Commission for Women which underway at Women and Children Development Ashram, Changangei Uchekon.
Faculty member of Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM), Dr KI Meitei spoke on the second day of the workshop today on the theme 'socio-economic empowerment of women.' Later, two self help groups (SHG) consisting of ten members each have been formed.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women, Dr Ch Jamini said women should be empowered in order to uplift them and they should be given the opportunity to enjoy rights on equal term.
More importantly, women should be ensured to earn a living by arranging income-generating means.
She added that the spiritual and economic aspects of women should be thrashed out.
