One married woman and an unmarried girl who left their families on pleasure trip have been nabbed from Nagpur, Maharashtra and sent to jail.
The woman also took along her small daughter and a young girl of her neighbourhood in addition to a substantial quantity of gold jewellery borrowed from relatives.
After a thorough investigation into the secretive activities and affairs of RK Yaikham (33) s/o Manisana of Lalambung Makhong Haorungbam Leikai and Soraisam ningol Yumnam ongbi Mamota Devi of Pishum Ningom Leirak, Singjamei Police arrested them from Nagpur.
They were produced before a Court here today which sent them to Judicial custody.
Police started searching for Mamota following a complaint filed by her husband Yumnam Nelson which said that Mamota had not returned since she left home on December 25 last together with their seven year old daughter and a neighbouring girl aged 16 on the pretext of giving Christmas gift to a friend.
During preliminary interrogation, it was found that Mamota collected around 15 tolas of gold jewellery from relatives and neighbours saying that she was going to a marriage ceremony, said OC of Singjamei police station, Mangi.
On checking the air passenger lists of December 25, the name of RK Yaikham was found in the Imphal-Guwahati Indigo flight.
But the name of Mamota was found listed as Tina.
The name of Mamota's seven year old girl was also found altered although the name of the neighbourhood's girl was not changed.
At this stage, it was suspected that RK Yaikham had taken away all the three females.
Subsequently, police went after RK Yaikham.
On learning that Yaikham did his higher education at Nagpur and that his parents run a shop at Guwahati, some family members of Nelson having locational knowledge of Nagpur were sent to the Maharashtra city on January 26/27 .
The family members who went with police enquiry slip spotted Yaikham and Mamota together with the two girls in a holiday resort at Catonaca area.
After communicating with the State Police, all four of them were detained in Gittikhadan.
Yaikham and Mamota were produced before JMIC Nagpur on February 4.After obtaining transit remand till February 8, a team of Singjamei police brought them to Imphal.
On February 8, Yaikham and Mamota were produced before the Court of CJM Imphal which remanded them to police custody till today.
The daughter and the girl were handed over to their families soon after arrival at Imphal.
The duo were produced before the same Court today which sent them to Judicial custody.
It is reported that Mamota got acquainted with Yaikham through mobile phone about six years back.
Since then they have been having extra-marital affairs.
At first, Yaikham had affairs with
one Annie.
But transfer of the SIM card used by Annie to different users one after another brought Yaikham and Mamota together as the SIM card finally landed in the hands of Mamota.
OC Mangi said that such incidents cannot by tackled by police alone.
The general public and NGOs should be cautious and remain vigilant about such illicit or extra-marital affairs which pose serious threat to family life.
