Imphal, February 10 2010:
With the stated objective of facilitating accommodation of the State Government officials and other individuals during their stay at Guwahati, construction of the Manipur Bhavan at Ulubari, began seven years back.
But still there is no sign of any completion.
Under the supervision of General Administrative Department (GAD), construction of the Bhavan was started by the Works Department, Government of Manipur, in 2003-04 .
At the time of issuing the work order, the construction was for a four-storey building including the ground floor.
However, at present construction work has been stopped completely.
A team of media persons from Manipur who have gone to inspect the work site recently found the gate of the complex locked with no sign of any construction activities.

In connection with inordinate delay of construction work of the Bhavan, the Works Department has been reportedly instructed to speed up construction work after GAD brought up the matter at the level of the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary.
As the Bhavan has remained under construction for the last 7 years, officials of the State Government and other VIPs have been either staying at hotels and in the two rooms serving as Manipur Bhavan at Rajgar Road which have taken by the Government since 1986 on monthly rent of Rs 7600 per room.
