A comprehensive workshop on "Vision and Mission Building in the Context of Ukhrul District with Reference to vision 2020 of North Eastern Council (NEC) and Look-East Policy" was organized today held at Ukhrul Town Hall in Ukhrul district.
The workshop was organised by the Ukhrul District Community Resource Management Society (UDCRMS) IFAD and sponsored by the NEC and Union ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
It was attended by officials of the government offices in Ukhrul District, representatives of villages and representatives of various social and NGOs based in the district, Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul N Ashok Kumar IAS, speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of the workshop talked elaborately on central sponsored project implementing in the state.
Citing the example of MK Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), he said the scheme is one of the most effective flagship schemes of UPA government at the Centre taken up under its common minimum agenda.
The scheme has given benefits to each and every household member as it provides 100 days works to them.
He also deliberated that with the coming of NREGS in Ukhrul, there have witnessed mark improvement in socio-economy condition of the people.
However, the DC expressed concern over the prevailing educational system of the district and said that government teachers especially those teachers from far flung villages like Poi, Huishu, Soraphung, Wahong and other border villages in the district always wanted to station in Ukhrul proper instead of giving emphasis in moulding the future of young students of the area.
"It is a worrisome matter and who is working for whom and for what still left a big question with him," he said.
On the other hand, the DC was grateful to UDCRMS for facilitating such a workshop fostering a common social platform wherein the public masses can took part in the discussion and impart constructive criticism, intake feedback, sharing views and ideas for effective social upliftment.
Rajen Mishra, IAS, AC to Ukhrul DC urged to differentiate the practical method of "Looking and seeing" and appealed the people to start seeing the development for social upliftment from the bottom of the pyramid considering the lowest section of the people.
In the programme UDCRMS also presented gift to district Agriculture Officer Luise Ngasainao, District Sports Officer Hungyo, Sericulture Officer Paul, Joint Director Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Dr NG Luithui and SDPO Jessami.
