An over-ground worker of the CorCom has been apprehended by a combined team of police commandos and Assam Rifles along with four Improvised Explosive Devices.
Speaking to media persons at Imphal East District Police Headquarters at Porompat this afternoon, Additional SP (Ops) AK Jhaljit said that the over-ground worker was apprehended during a search operation conducted by Imphal East and Imphal West commandos and troops of 9 Sector AR at Palace Gate.
Acting on a specific tip off, the combined force frisked and checked commuters starting from 1 pm today.
At about 1.30 pm, one youth moving in suspicious manner was rounded up near Palace Compound traffic point.
The apprehendee has been identified as one Gurumayum Khugamani Sharma alias Inao alias Nanao alias Bamon (23) of Wangkhei Pukhrambam Leirak.
On preliminary questioning, Khugamani disclosed that he was working under PLA's Lieutenant Yumnam Chourajit alias Sunilkumar alias Robertson alias Anoiba alias Samson (32) of Khurai Puthiba since 2009. He further disclosed that four powerful IEDs given by Robertson were being kept in his house.
Subsequently, Khugamani's house was raided and recovered the IEDs.
Altogether four IEDs put inside anti-mosquito spray cans, two detonators, two transmitters and one remote controlled device were recovered from the house of Khugamani, Jhaljit said.
The bombs were reportedly handed over to Khugamani at Moreh on January 14 to carry out subversive activities on Republic Day and during the run up to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.
Khugamani was also directed to plant the bombs at Lamlong bridge, Minuthong bridge and Thong Nambonbi (Hump bridge).
However, the bombs could not be planted due to stringent security measures taken up by the Government, stated the Addl SP.
Khugamani brought the bombs from Moreh to Imphal after packing them inside loudspeakers.
Khugamani has not yet any kind of military training.
Nevertheless, he was taught how to trigger the bombs.
Earlier he was member of the Manipuri Students' Federation and currently he is a member of the Royal Riders Manipur.
Meanwhile, one hand grenade was found at the residence of Md Askar alias Ibotombi at Lilong Chumbreikhong this morning.
The grenade was retrieved by explosive experts of Manipur Police and set it off safely at a nearby place at about 10.30 am.
