Imphal, February 04, 2012:
Scuffle between voters and security personnel broke out during repolls to the State Assembly elections at polling station number 54/9 - Charoi Chagotlong under Nungba Assembly Constituency of Tamenglong district today.
The voters were protesting against another group of voters who had allegedly cast their votes in other polling stations.
Although, only 597 out of total 1050 voters could cast their voters, polling personnel wrapped up polling with the sealing of EVMs at around 3.15 pm.
At that time, around 100 voters were on queue.
They instantly protested wrapping up of polling.
However, another group of voters asked the polling personnel not to allow them to cast their votes, upon which the irate voters who were barred from voting rained with stones on security personnel.
To control the situation, security personnel resorted to lathi charge in which around 10 women were injured.
After the scuffle was brought into control, the voters who were on queue were allowed to cast vote at around 5.20 pm.
At polling station 41/40 - Tampi of Chandel district, where maximum casualty was witnessed in the election held on January 28, EVM was kept in open even though the polling station had voting compartment.
However, the EVM was shifted at the voting compartment after a team of reporters got inside the polling station.
Polling was conducted under tight security at this polling station.
