Above 76 PC voter turnout recorded in re-poll of 34 polling stations

The re-poll which was held amidst tight security arrangements in 34 polling stations of the hill districts of Manipur today recorded a poll percentage above 76%.According to reports obtained from the State Election Office, for the district of Chandel, out of the total 6059 voters in the eight polling stations where re-poll was conducted, 4885 voters turned up to cast their votes making up 80.62% polling .
Ukhrul district where re-poll was conducted in eight polling stations had altogether 5384 voters out of which 4648 or 72.81% voters cast their votes.
Out of the total 3497 voters in the five polling stations in Churachandpur district, 2063 voters or 58.99% cast their votes.
Tamenglong district, where re-poll was conducted in four polling stations, recorded a poll percentage of 72% while Senapati district recorded a poll percentage of 85%.Re-poll was conducted in eight polling stations of Senapati district.
There were some impediments to re-poll in Senapati district as the optical fibers of BSNL were destroyed by unidentified miscreants, thus leading to a total shut down in its network.
As the telephone wires were cut off, the exact report of the poll percentage could not be ascertained till late evening.
In Tamenglong district some miscreants tried to break the queue in polling station number 54/9-Chakanglong under Nungba A/C and chaos prevailed for a while but the situation brought under control by the security forces.
Later again security forces had to fire some rounds to control the situation All in all, the re-poll was quite peaceful in almost all the polling stations.
There were tight security arrangements to prevent from any unwanted incident.
In polling station number 41/40-Tampi under Chandel A/C, where 7 persons were killed in a shoot out inside the polling station last time, the re-poll was peaceful although tight security arrangements were put in place.
Reports reaching here further stated that the EVMs and polling personnel of Churachandpur and Tamenglong A/C were brought back to their respective headquarters in a chopper.
Almost all the polling personnel have reached the district headquarters by late this evening.
