Two overground workers arrested

Imphal, February 04, 2012:
Security personnel arrested at least two overground workers of underground organizations from different parts of the state during the last 24 hours.
In the first incident, a combined team of 24 Assam Rifles and 31 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) apprehended one overground worker of CorCom from Moreh today.
According to PRO Assam Rifles, discovering the movement of armed UGs to disrupt re-polling in Moreh, troops of 24 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) launched joint operation in and around a house located one metre away from the International boundary on Indian side today.
Upon entering the house at around 10.45 am, three individuals suddenly started firing and fleeing towards the International boundary.
In self-defence, the troops returned the firing in a controlled manner keeping in mind the presence of a large number of civilians on both the Indian and Myanmar side.
Further search of the house led to the arrest of an overground worker (OGW) of CorCom with one 9 mm pistol and nine live rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
On interrogation, the arrested OGW disclosed that he is also an active weapon and drug dealers and he was contacted by one UG outfit to provide them with grenades.
On the other hand, based on specific information, 43 Assam Rifles of the Red Shield Division along with state police apprehended another OGW of KCP from Santipur near Motbung.
According to a PIB Defence Wing statement, the apprehended OGW was later identified as Santa Thangpu Langpoklakpam alias Tomba s/o Bera Singh Langpoklakpam of Motbung.
The apprehendee has been subsequently handed over to Senapati district police, the statement conveyed.
