Imphal, March 28, 2014:
Reacting to the statement of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi who assured to put all efforts towards resolving the protracted Naga political problem during an election rally at Kohima yesterday, the Naga People's Front (NPF) Manipur State Unit today said that it is unfortunate to learn that Congress party has the habit of making false promises especially during election times.
"Is it not ridiculous on the part of the Congress Vice President to have made such a statement now of putting in all his efforts in resolving the protracted Naga political problem when the political talks between the two entities have crossed for more than a decade? NPF believes in transforming various problems faced by the people in the North East region with sincerity and transparency.
NPF stands for the people's genuine cause for peace, good governance, progress and development," a statement issued by the NPF Manipur State Unit said.
Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde made a false promise in 2013 saying "Naga solution will be there before election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in March," the NPF statement cited this as one of the many false promises made by the Congress.
NPF does not go by such cheap propaganda and false promises, and urges upon other communities not to succumb to the election gimmick of the Congress party, it said.
While the NPF party does respect the freedom of expression, the party, at the same time, does not appreciate concocted propaganda and false promises made by certain individuals and personalities belonging to some political parties especially during elections to hoodwink the voters and common citizens.
It also added that the reported statement of Soso Shaiza, the Spokesperson of BJP Manipur Pradesh in a vernacular daily lacks political maturity which was just for the sake of publicity blitz to misinform and hoodwink the voters, it added.
