In protest against the 'enforced disappearance' of two individuals after they were picked up by security personnel, protest demon stration including road blockades were staged at two different places today.
Oinam Girani (22) s/o Yaima and Oinam Maipaksana (33) s/o Bhimo, both belonging to Isikha Mayai Leikai under Heingang police station, were picked up by security personnel numbering around 7/8 on October 22 from their respective houses.
While some of the security personnel were in uniform, others were clad in civvies.
In connection with the arrest of Girani and Maipaksana, their families lodged a complaint at Porompat police station.
With the whereabouts of the two persons remaining unknown till date, local Meira Paibis staged a protest demonstration at Isikha today.
The Meira Paibis were demanding safe release of the two individuals.
Two other individuals arrested by security forces between Lilong Keithel and Ushoipokpi at about 10 am yesterday could not be traced till the time of filing this report.
The two arrested persons have been identified as Md Sajan (24) s/o Md Salam and Laishram Ibungo alias Baitu s/o late Ibotombi.
Md Sajan belongs to Lilong Turel Ahanbi (near Upak Thong) while Ibungo alias Baitu is from Kangabam Leikai.
One Maruti car ( DL 0182) was with them when they were apprehended by security forces.
Protesting against the arrest and non-disclosure of their whereabouts, people of Lilong including family members staged a protest demonstration in front of Lilong police station.
They blocked one side of NH 39 from Lilong bridge to Lilong Ushoipokpi.
Soon after another group of people came out and blocked movement of all vehicles except those on emergency services and religious functions.
Family members of Md Sajan and Laishram Ibungo alias Baitu are suspicious of the involvement of Assam Rifles in the abduction.
