Imphal, January 08:
A devastating fire gutted 16 shops located within MPP complex, West of Pologround today at about 3 am.
Articles and properties worth huge amount of money were destroyed by the fire even though there was no human casualty.
Most of the shops razed by the fire dealt in second hand clothes.
According to information received from the Manipur Fire Service, fire tenders rushed to the area immediately and promptly struggled to douse the raging fire.
However, as most of the shops dealt in clothes and the shops were partitioned by bamboo mats (phaklong), the fire tenders could not control the fire in time.
Nevertheless, the fire tenders managed to check the fire from spreading to surrounding shops.
The origin of the fire as well as the loss cannot be confirmed as yet.
Meanwhile Assam Rifles PRO in a statement said that troops of 32 Assam Rifles joined the State Fire Service personnel in putting out the fire.
The PRO said that Assam Rifles mobilised a large number of troops, water bowsers, firefighting equipment and medical facilities to carry out rescue and relief mission and provide timely aid to the people, said the statement.
