The Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench has today issued contempt notice to Union Defence Secretary for his alleged failure to comply with an earlier Court's ruling pertaining to selection of tableau for th ensuing Republic Day celebration at New Delhi.
The contempt petitioners are Ch Krishnakumar and K Mangi, both tableau designers, said advocate Y Rupachandra Singh who is appearing on behalf of the petitioners.
He said the State Government had approved four tableaus for displaying in the ensuing Republic Day parade, the Centre would select only one tableau for which designers of the four approved tableaus moved to New Delhi to join the selection examination.
However, tableau model (Manipuri Ras Leela) of the two petitioners/designers were not examined by the central authorities.
Later it was learnt that the authorities recommended other tableau model (Pakhangba Cheng Hongba).
Thus peeved with it, the two filed a legal notice to the respondent and later moved the High Court.
On December 15, 2006, the Court asked the respondent (Defence Secretary) to disposed off the matter within two weeks.
Since the given deadline lapses, the two filed the contempt petition, Rupachandra informed.
Acting on the contempt petition, the Court has asked as to why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against the respondent for his failure to comply with the earlier Court verdict.
The competition notice was made returnable within four weeks.
