Imphal, January 08:
Demanding a positive response from the side of Manipur University to its demand for allowing 1st and 2nd year students of BA, B Sc and B Com with back papers to appear in the examination for the 3rd and final year examination, All Manipur College Students' Union has threatened to launch various form of intense agitations with effect from tomorrow.
Address a press conference in this connection at Manipur Press Club here today, Union spokesman N Ranjitkumar asserted that the Union has decided to take recourse to agitation as the authorities concerned of MU have failed to give a positive response to the memoranda submitted earlier in this con nection.
For the first phase of the agitation which would begin from tomorrow, issue of examination forms for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year examination of BA, B Sc and B Com would be stopped.
If no positive response is forthcoming, then all the classes of the Govt colleges would be boycotted with effect from January 13 along with sealing the administrative blocks of these colleges.
Even after the class boycott and closure of the administrative blocks, if Manipur University remain indifferent to the demand, then the examinations to be held during April/May would be not be allowed and might resort to imposition of State wide general strike, Ranjitkumar warned.
He pointed out that as per the existing rules of the University, 1st year students of BA, B Sc, B Com who have back papers are promoted to the 2nd year and appeared in the examination.
Similarly, students of 2nd year are allow admission in 3rd year even before declaration of their results.
So any students of 2nd year who have back papers should be allow to sit for the examination of 3rd year, he contended.
Otherwise, it would be loss of academic year for those students who have already admitted and started attending classes for the 3rd year, he further asserted.
The memorandum submitted to the MU authorities reportedly set Dec 23 as deadline for giving a positive response to the demand.
