Paying ever lasting tribute to former president of MEELAL Chingsubam Akaba, a trust has been formed with late man's wife Chingsubam ongbi Wangambi as the adhoc committee chairperson.
The trust christened, "Luching Purel Chingsubam Akaba Ningshing Lup," was formed following a meeting attended by representatives of different communities and civil society organisations and well wishers at Akaba's Soibam Leikai residence.
The members present at the meeting unanimously decided to name Akaba's widow Wangambi as the chairperson of the adhoc committee of the Trust.
Twenty eight members drawn from different communities with Naoroibam Indramani as the convenor was also set up.
The meeting which was presided by former Principal of DM College N Nilbir also decided to set up six memorial sites of the late man.
The place where the memorial sites are expected to come up include a life size (bronze) statue of Akaba at Wokha (Nongmaijingching) where the mortal remains of Akaba was laid to rest, constructing a community hall and a tourist park there, setting up a gold medal award to outstanding students at the university level in any subject annually and an enclosure at the State library where the literary products of Akaba would kept and another enclosure at State museum where various artefacts and clothes gifted to him would also be kept.
An office bearer of MEELAL said that since the Lanna Thouram of Akaba falls in January 11 which co-incides with the 278th anniversary of the burning of the Puyas, the two occasions would be held together at the premises of Citizens' Club.
MEELAL's president Ng Yumjao, HERICOUN's assistant general secretary Mutum Churamani, former Education (U) Director Dr Gangte among others spoke at the meeting.
