Imphal, October 02:
A cement laden truck (NL-01-A9071) was set ablaze today at around 7.30 am at Thaoroijam Awang Leikai, South West of Patsoi police station.
Along with another truck (MN-01A-6341), the truck arrived at Imphal yesterday carrying 400 bags of cement from Bokajan, Assam.
Even though the first truck unloaded the cement yesterday itself at Wangoi, the second truck could not proceed to Wangoi as it broke down.
Consequently, Rajen (driver) drove the truck to his home at Sagolband Moirang Leirak where he has been staying in a rented room.
The driver of the first truck (NL-01-A9071), Ibohal came to Rajen's place this morning to transfer the cement to his vehicle so that the goods are delivered to its destination at Wangoi.
As the transfer of cement bags was finishing, some two/three unidentified men hijacked Ibohal's truck and brought it to Thaoroijam Awang Leikai Shabal Lampak.
There the driver and the helper were herded into a nearby house before the truck was set ablaze.
On receiving information of the arson, a fire brigade team from Imphal rushed to the spot and managed to douse the fire before the vehicle was completely burnt.
Moreover about 100 cement bags were also saved from the fire.
As of now, the identities of the miscreants and the motive of the arson cannot be ascertained behind the arson, says a report.
Meanwhile, the Peace Humanity and Social Development Club, Thaoroijam Mamang Leikai and the Thaoroijam Chaokhat Lamjing Lup have appealed to all concerned not to undertake such activities in future.
In two separate statements, they observed that the burning of the truck in their locality have created fear and a sense of panic to the people.
Further, the people are apprehensive of unwanted repercussions because of such activities in their locality.
