Imphal, August 30 2010:
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has announced that a State policy on utilisation of land in Manipur would soon be drafted.
Speaking as chief guest at the launch of computerisation of land records in the office complex of Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West today, Ibobi said necessary policy on the pattern on using land in the hills and valley districts of Manipur would be drafted and enacted as laws and a separate directorate would be set up to look after the matter.
On the importance of computerising the land records, the Chief Minister pointed out that this would ensure not only proper entry and record of the land but also prevent dispute between contending parties.
Explaining that computerisation of land records has already been implemented in other States and permission of the Government is sought by the land owners at the time of using their land, the Chief Minister said that due measures would be taken in Manipur as well to ensure that permission of the Government is a must before converting any of the agricultural land into brick field or construction houses and schools.
This would ensure proper utilisation of the land.
Similarly, the Government would conduct a thorough survey of the land in the hill districts for keeping the land record properly, the Chief Minister said, adding that the existing land record system in the hills will also become a cause for more disputes in days to come in view of increasing population and influx of outsiders.
Therefore, the Government would see that a separate directorate is set up to look after the record of the land in the hill districts of the State.
MLA I Hemochandra presided over the function.
