An official team of Union Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) today inspected the project site at Khongman in Imphal East where a moat is to be developed with a Rs 11 crore funding from the DoNER.
The official team is led by Joint Secretary, Joyshree Mukherjee.
Other members include officials of the National Institute of Financial Management, Faridabad, GP Gupta and superintending engineer Trilokchand Baruwa of DoNER.
The proposed visit was related with the comparing of the Draft Project Proposal (DPR) for rejuvenation submitted by the state government with the proposal of funding from DoNER, a source said.
The centre had already agreed to sanction funds for the project from the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources.
MLA of Thongju Kendra Bijoy Koijam who is also the deputy chairman of the State Planning Board and Chief Engineer, Loken of PWD and other PWD officials were present in the site inspection.
An official of the state government, who was part of the inspection, hinted that the visiting officials of DoNER has given a green signal to the funding of the project and rejuvenating the Moat which is in an awful state clogged by water hyacinth and made worse as people have been using it as a dumping ground for garbage.
The DoNER team also inspected construction sites of proposed bridges across the Imphal river at Old Thumbuthong, Chingarel and Tinsid Road on Iril river in Imphal east district.
The bridge at Thambuthong is to replace the existing bridge connecting Imphal East and West District and the state government is proposing to construct a double lane bridge at an estimated cost of Rs 6.8 crore while the estimated costs of the bridges at Chingarel and Tinsid Road are Rs 5 crore each.
The DoNER team arrived here as part of its inspection visits to projects in Manipur and Tripura under the funding of the ministry.
During their stay in the state capital, they will also hold consultation meetings with officials of the state PWD, PHED, PMGSY and examine the utilization of funds released by DoNER for various projects for improvement of road communication, water supply and vocational training, the source added.
