Ukhrul, August 30 2010:
Heavy rainfall that lashed the State recently has resulted in lots of hardships in far and flung villages of Ukhrul district bordering Myanmar.
Young Raphei Conference (YRC), the apex students body of the area, conducted an extensive road inspection of many villages in the extreme part of the North Ukhrul district of Chingai and Ukhrul Block bordering Myanmar.
Taking serious note of the road woes, a press release issued by YRC president Tuithing Zingkhai said that landslides have totally cut off some villages from the rest of the world.
Zingkhai informed that on NH-150, road from Awangkasom to Chingai has been totally ruined and damaged thereby cutting off from the rest of the district since past more than one week.

However, he added, some portion has been cleared with the joint effort of Government officials and YRC volunteers.
The press release added that the roads from NH-150 to Huishu, Poi, Kuingai, Challou and Tusom villages are in deplorable condition giving immense hardship in every aspect of day to day life of the villagers.
The family and villagers of an elderly man from Huisu village faced lots of hardships when his corpse was brought to his native village on foot crossing a stretch of 17 kms.
YRC alleged the construction of Nunghar-Kharasom-Poi-Chingai road under CRF and SPA/ACA is not yet complete even as the stipulated time has been expired and 80 percent of the fund withdrawn.
The union warned the concerned department and contractors with stringent action including booking under RTI Act if the work is not resumed at the earliest.
