Saying that Department of Agriculture has procured 13,000 metric tonnes of urea till June, Principal Secretary (Agriculture) O Nabakishore stated that there would be no shortage of urea in Manipur this kharif season.
The Principal Secretary was speaking to some media persons at Ningthoukhong community hall before distributing agricultural equipment to farmers there.
Nabakishore said quantity of urea procured this year was three times the quantity procured last year.
Following declaration of the State as drought affected by the State Government, experts of Agriculture Department and scientists of Central Agricultural University have constituted a committee to tackle the situation arising out of the prolong dry spell.
So far, the department has distributed 300 water pump sets to farmers.
Moreover, necessary initiatives have been taken up to develop community nurseries in all the districts, Nabakishore said.
In the event of unavailability of enough water for cultivation of paddy, Agriculture Department would take up necessary actions in collaboration with Horticulture Department to provide rabi crop seeds to farmers so that very few paddy fields lie vacant.
Later different agricultural inputs were provided to farmers of Bishnupur district under different schemes of the Macro Management Mode of Agriculture, funded by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation.
The function was attended by MLA Govindas Konthoujam, Agriculture Director RK Nayansana and Principal Secretary (Agriculture) O Nabakishoe as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
