A children conference on child rights was organised by the Committee on Development and Protection of Child Rights in association with the New Era Environmental and Development Society at Nungrourok village in Chandel district today.
Speaking as chief guest at the conference held under the theme "Ensure Child Rights for a Better Nation", Chandel DC Devesh Deval pointed out that protection of child rights need collective responsibility of all sections in addition to the various policies and programmes launched by the Government for protection of child rights.
Protection of child rights requires a peaceful atmosphere free from undue interference and intimidation, he noted.
The programme was attended by around 100 children belonging to 16 different children clubs.
Speaking at the occasion, president of the All Tribal Women's Organisation, Chandel district Shakhila said children constitute about 30 percent of the country's population.
But 2 percent of them are being engaged in different works as labourers.
Many of them are suffering hunger and inability to attend school.
Many of them have become handicap due to their inaccessibility to vaccination programmes in time.
Shakhila further called upon all to safeguard the rights of children from any form of violation.
Later Chandel DC Devesh Deval distributed stationery items to the children.
