Imphal, October 04:
The Court of District and Sessions Court, Manipur East has released TIPS functionaries L Umakanta and Y Lanngamba Meitei alias Thabi from its custody without any conditions.
While issuing the release verdict today, the Court, also allowed confiscation of one out of three CD copies recovered from Thabi which is informed to contain 'banner' of the banned KCP outfit.
The two were previously produced before the same Court on an earlier occasion after they were picked up from their respective homes on August 23 and 24.Today's ruling comes in the wake of police failure to prepare charge-sheets when the TIPS general secretary Umakanta and the rights body's information secretary Thabi were last produced before the Court of Ng Max Phazang on September 29.It may be mentioned that both TIPS functionaries were set free by a Court but the same remanded them to further judicial custody as they declined to oblige legal formalities of furnishing bail bonds.
Many civil society organisations had launched different forms of agitation demanding unconditional release of both.
The Court had earlier ruled that the two can be freed on bail, but it was turned down.
