Literally taking up the cudgels for over 10,000 development starved public of 10 villages scattered in the interior area of Ukhrul district near the Indo-Myanmar border the Yang Raphei Conference has drawn the attention of the Governor to intervene and act immediately to mitigate suffering of these villagers.
In a memorandum submitted today, the body intimated Dr SS sidhu regarding static lifestyle in Khamasom Khullen, Shihai Khullen, Shihai Khunou, Wallili, Phungthar, Phungrei, Huishu, Poi, Kahaophung and Khayang despite 50 years of indian planning process.
With no Govt ventures on development visible in these areas the people continue to reel under abject poverty, said the Ukhrul body and fervently appealed to the Governor to direct authorities concerned take appropriate measures at the earliest in alleviating pitiable conditions of these villagers.
The Conference proposals pertains to plea for ensuring availability of clean drinking water provision as almost the entire villagers have to fetch water from places as far as two kms away.
Regarding surface transport, it decried lack of progress in development of the Nunghar-Khamasom-Poi-Chingai road that has been lying neglected for years inspite of the fact that 3.47 crores had been sanctioned for the same route under the Central road Fund some two years back, maintained a YRC release.
It also demanded converting Khamasom Khullen to Huishu route into a motorable road with similar programme insisted for the Khamasom Khullen to Phungthar road.
Highlighting numerous ills afflicting this part of the State, the body prevailed upon the Governor to ensure reopening of the defunct PHC at Khamasom Khullen; ensure basic facilities in Kha masom Khullen H/S which is the only high school accessible to the 10 villages; open atleast one primary school in these villages; revive PDS scheme; and extend all possible assistance in encouraging the villagers adopt sustainable agricultural practices in place of the present method of jhum cultivation.
