Highlighting plight of people residing in Vangai Range and Hmar Biel Range of Tipaimukh and Parbung sub-divisions in Churachandpur district the Hmar Students' Association (HSA) and Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (Desam) have called upon the Governor Dr SS sidhu to provide basic health care infrastructure in the most backward sub-divisions.
In a joint memorandum addressed to the Governor, HSA and Desam detailed findings of the recently conducted Natural Expedition cum Free Health Camps in these areas wherein it came to light that 54 persons out of 245 blood samples collected were found positive for cerebral malaria.
The expedition cum medical camps were conducted in collaboration with personnel of Manipur University and Directorates of Agriculture & Horticulture and Directorate of Health in between August 25 and September 1, this year.
Further pointing out that people in these places have been suffering enormously owing to absence of proper roads and health facilities, the joint representation urged the Governor to instruct authorities concerned establish Primary Health Centres and dispatch a medical team immediately to cater to medical requirements of the people.
Other proposals include re-opening of the Jiribam-Tipaimukh and Churachandpur-Tipaimukh roads to enable inhabitants of these areas communicate with the outside world, ensure a functioning public distribution system, extend Rual Electrification Programme, ensure availability of potable water, special priority towards improving socio-economic conditions thro ugh promotion of horticulture, agricultural, veterinary and forestry activities and arrange special employment scheme.
