Imphal, September 28:
Consequent upon the writ petition filed on behalf of the 1997 Primary Teacher DPC Faced Candidates' Association by its president Potshangbam Dhanachandra, the Gauhati High Court has stayed the proceedings to appoint over 1200 primary teachers in Government schools.
The order to this effect was passed by Justice MBK Singh in his Imphal Bench sitting yesterday, said sources.
The petitioners contended that they had already faced DPC for appointment of primary teachers even though its results have not been declared till date.
As such, the results of the previous DPC should be declared first before any process for new recruitment is initiated, they pleaded.
On September 14, the State Government issued an order for appointment of over 1200 primary teachers for which submission of cards in the employment exchanges by the intending candidates is underway, informed a source.
After hearing both the parties, the Court yesterday ruled that no further proceedings be made in pursuit of the order issued on September 14 until the returnable date which is after four weeks.
The respondents listed in the case included the State of Manipur represented by Commissioner Education (S) and Director of the Education Department.
It may be mentioned here that the High Court on December 15 last year issued an interim order staying a previous proceeding of the State Government to appoint primary teachers.
Advocate BP Sahu appeared on behalf of the petitioners.
