Along with offering flowers and Thoiding Kabok to the departed souls, the Tarpan ritual was performed at Khongjom river, in Thoubal district.
The event was facilitated by Khongjom War Memorial Trust.
The Trust has been organising the event since 1994. MLA of Tentha Assembly Constituency Moirangthem Hemanta who is also the president of Khongjom War Memorial trust and his colleague MLA of Heirok Assembly Constituency Moirangthem Oken were also present among the people who came from different parts to offer Tarpan.
Afterward, they also paid floral tributes to the statue of Paona Brajabashi installed at the foothills of Kheba Ching.
Paona Brajabashi was the chief commander of the Manipuri forces in the Khongjom War.
Addressing the gathering, Hemanta observed that it is the duty of all of us to remember and respect the sacrifices made by 'our forefathers' to the cause of protecting independence of Manipur.
Announcing that necessary preparations have been made to construct an open air theatre at the historic Khongjom War Memorial from the fund allocated by the Centre for development of the complex, the MLA also appealed to the people for co-operation and support towards ensuring early completion of the work.
MLA Oken exhorted the people to be inspired by the courage and spirit of the for-efathers who did not hesitate to lay down their lives for the cause of the motherland.
To follow the path shown by our forefathers would be a fitting tribute to them, he added.
Public also offered Tarpan at Kekrupat here in memory of the 18 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur.
