Imphal, September 05, 2009:
Prof H Nanda Kumar Sharma, Pro Vice Chancellor of Manipur University and Professor of Physics has left Imphal for Cambridge University to participate in the 19th International Conference on Ion Beam Analysis to be held at the University of Cambridge, a statement issued by PRO of MU, M Saratchandra informed.
Prof HNK Sharma and Dr Nomita had done extensive work on the characterisation of materials especially on major and trace element analysis using ion bea protons of a few million electron volt from accelerator.
The proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE) and nuclear reaction-proton induced gamma ray emission (PIGE) are the major techniques used for non destructive elemental analysis.
Their findings will be presented in the conference.
Cambridge University is celebrating this year as a special one in connection with the 100th anniversary of the backscattering experiment done by Rutherford, the PRO statement added.
Prof HNK Sharmaill also participate in the conference of Thin Film Photovoltaics organised by the Institute of Physics, London, it stated.
