Imphal, January 02 2010:
The festivities are over now with the conclusion of New Year celebrations and the hill people who have gone to their native homesteads have begun to flock down back to the state capital Imphal and start perusing over the Manipur cabinet decision of conducting elections to the Autonomous District Council (ADC) of the hill districts which have been held up for 20 odd years.
It is expected that in the next few days time numerous opinions from both public leaders and social organisations will be pouring out in swarms reacting to the recent Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government albeit majority of them will welcome the decision.
Since the people of the hill districts have been waiting for two decades for holding the ADC polls, the people will not be ever to wait for any longer but to straightaway started making stategies and campaigns sooner the Christmas and new year celebrations are over.
The Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) chief Ngachnmi Chamroy while speaking to NNN from his native village in Ukhrul district has expressed that this time the state government should not retract its decision of conducting the polls to the Autonomous District Council (ADC).
IDF had called numerous Manipur hill districts bandh and blockades last year demanding the early holding of ADC polls in the hill districts.
It is expected that by the mid-January the campaigns for the ADC polls will begin to gain momentum even though the polls are to be conducted in April as the thrust of 20 years' wait is not going to be that slow.
Calling it the grass-root level democracy or decentralisation of powers on the ADC polls, the Indigenous Democratic Front has all set to make sure that the state government definitely implements its decision atleast this time.
