Along with releasing a sum of Rs 111 crores for the various projects that are underway or would be taken up in the State with funding from Special Plan Assistance (SPA) of 2009-2010, the Planning Commission of India has also given its clearance to the projects under the SPA.
According to an official source, the Planning Commission issued an order to the effect of releasing a sum of Rs 111 crores from out of the total sanctioned amount of Rs 486 crores under SPA 2009-2010 after a detailed discussion with Chief Secretary DS Poonia yesterday.
Along with this, the Planning Commission has also cleared all the pending projects under SPA to be implemented in the current fiscal year, the source added.
It may be noted here that out of the total plan amount of Rs 2000 crores, the State has been allocated Rs 600 crores under SPA in the current fiscal year.
Some of the projects being implemented in the State under SPA funding in the current fiscal year include development of JNIMS (Rs 50 crores), setting up of new police stations (Rs 35 crores) and construction of mini secretariats in eight districts (Rs 30 crores).
In addition to this, a sum of Rs 55 crores has been allocated under the SPA for the project of conservation and management of Loktak Lake, which is the largest freshwater lake in the whole Northeast region.
It may be recalled here that a meeting of the State Cabinet held on December 30 last has projected the plan size of the State for the next fiscal year 2010-11 as Rs 3232 crores including the proposed allocation of Rs 800 crores under SPA.
