Imphal, January 02 2010:
Two persons died in separate motor-vehicle mishaps including one knocked down allegedly by a vehicle of Assam Rifles on the last day of December 2009, i.e.December 31 .
The first accident occurred at about 3.15 pm near Khangabok Bazar under Thoubal police station.
A 407 Tata in the convoy of 33 Assam Rifles coming from Wangjing side allegedly knocked down a motorcycle (Bazaj Pulser-MN-04B-5900), inflicting serious injuries to the rider and the pillion rider.
The motorcyclist identified as Thoudam Jiten (38), son of Th Jugol of Thoubal Wangma Taba, succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
He was a pharmacist serving in government Malaria Department and posted at Tamenglong.
The injured pillion rider was identified as Md Rahimuddin (58), son of Md Basiruddin of Mayang Imphal Chirai Muslim Mathak Leikai.
He is also an employee of Social Welfare Department posted in Tamenglong district.
He has been referred to a hospital in Guwahati from Shija Hospitals where he was treated, after his condition became serious.
The second accident occurred at Moirang Koujengsubam under Moirang police station of Bishnupur district on December 31 night at about 9.30 pm.
In the accident, a 65 year old man identified as Phairembam Mangi sustained injuries.
