Imphal, January 02 2010:
After remaining shut down for three days on account of monetary demand from the proscribed armed outfit PREPAK, the Primary Health Centre at Sawombung has reopened and resumed normal functioning from today.
Police broke open the lock and the key of the health centre to ensure resumption of service from today.
It may be recalled here that some armed persons who identified themselves as members of the proscribed PREPAK had locked up the primary health centre after taking the key from the residence of the Chowkidar on December 30 last.
|
A couple of days earlier, members of the said proscribed outfit had demanded payment of 2 percent of their salary from each of the 15 staff working in the health centre and threaten some of them in this regard over the phone.
After the matter was brought to the notice of Lamlai PS, the OC came down personally to break open the lock of the health centre to ensure resumption of service from today.
Local MLA and Health Minister Ph Parijat also visited to inspect the health centre today.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the inspection, Parijat denounced the forced closure of the health centre as an act that could be resorted by those who cannot think like human being.
