With the process of dredging the historic Chandranadi river already underway to ensure its natural flow, MLA of Langthabal Assembly Constituency O Joy has started eyeing on development of a Chandranadi Park.
The MLA today inspected the progress of the work on dredging river covering a distance of about 1 kilometre from Langthabal Khoupum Lamkhai to Meitram Lamkhai, construction of the market shed at Langthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai which is almost completed and the existing condition of a UJB school
building.
Talking to mediapersons after the inspection at Toupokpi near Heibok Ching, O Joy informed that IFC Department had estimated that around Rs 1.75 crores may be required for dredging the Chandranadi river and accordingly started the work last year.
However, the ongoing work is being taken up with funding from his Local Area Development Fund with the expectation that the required fund would be subsequently provided by the State Government.
Disclosing that the wide of the river which used to be 32 feet would be 80 feet after the dredging, Joy informed that during rainy season, the river would be able to store water upto 20 feet.
Over and above the ongoing dredging of Chandranadi river, a project proposal has also already been submitted to the Ministry of DONER for construction of a Chandranadi Ecology Park in August last, Joy said, while expressing hope that the proposal would be approved.
The proposed ecology park would have facilities for water conservation, water supply, water sports, pier and irrigation besides protection of the environment and ecology.
These facilities would also help in development of the area, Joy said.
Earlier, while inspecting the progress of the building of the Langthabal Kunja UJB School being constructed with funding from the Ministry of Urban Development and 11 market sheds including three under the Local Area Development Fund of the MLA and public ponds, the MLA have assured that these development projects would be inaugurated soon.
Under this Ministry, 101 houses of families living below poverty line (BPL), three club buildings and 111 latrines have already been constructed in different parts of the Assembly Constituency.
