Imphal, December 16 2008:
THE MANIPUR Electricity Employees' Union, in a representation submitted to the state chief minister, O Ibobi urging him to implement the recommendation of the sixth pay commission, has threatened to launch strong protest like strikes and other forms of agitations.
While justifying their demand, the Union in the representation mentioned that with the start of the implementation of the revised pay structure to its employees by the Central government as well by some states of the country by shooting up inflation has greatly affected the much low-paid state government employees.
If the income gap is not narrowed down to even level, such great imbalances in the income level would adversely affect the economic condition of the general people as a whole whose earning capability would be tied to the pre-implementation status quo, the representation said while drawing attention of the chief minister in the early implementation of the sixth pay commission to the employees of the state government.
