The five day workshop on fishery and aquaculture development organised by KVK Ultou under the sponsorship IGNOU concluded today.
Taking part in the concluding function held at KVK Utlou complex as a guest of honour, ex-MP Th Chaoba advocated that fish productivity of the State should be enhanced so as to make Manipur a fishery industry.
Observing that Manipur has ready markets for fish, Chaoba noted that the only problem is the inability to produce fish in abundance.
Th Chaoba who is also chairman of KVK Utlou also talked about integrated aquaculture.
In his presidential speech, Fishery Director K Sarat noted that Bishnupur is the highest producer of fish in the State.
Observng that the best method of fish farming is integrated fish farming, he explained that rearing pigs and poultry birds near fish farms constitute integrated fish farming.
Productivity of grass carf variety of fish has been increased three fold and fish farmers are able to market grass carp profitably, he observed.
The function was also attended by Prof Dr M Dhaneshwar of Dept of Animal Sciences, CAU, Regional Director of IGNOU Imphal Centre Dr RK Ranjit and School of Agriculture, IGNOU New Delhi Lecturer Dr P Vijay Kumar as presidium members.
