As a part of the 29th Archives Week celebration, an exhibition of past records has been opened at Manipur State Archives complex from today.
The opening function was graced by Art and Culture Commissioner P Bharat as chief guest, retired Principal of LMS Law College RK Jhaljit as functional president and Reader at NG College Dr M Lokendra as guest of honour.
The items put on display during the exhibition included 501 ancient manuscripts brought from People's Museum, Kakching, 34 books donated by Pandit Khulem Chandrasekhar to Manipur State Archives and another 13 books donated by Dr M Kirti.
Speaking at the occasion, P Bharat called upon the people to take due care all the invaluable assets of Manipur history and its civilization being kept in Archives, Library and Museum.
Without help from scholars and the people, staff of Archives and Museum cannot preserve all these antiques and historical records in their completeness.
Saying that infrastructure of the Government Art College under Art and Culture Department is being improvised, Bharat observed that once the construction work of the Centra Library is fully completed, elderly persons, youths and disabled persons shall be able to access and read books at the library.
Dr M Lokendra spoke on the theme, "Development of Manipur State Archives".
During the function, citations were presented to Khulem Chandrasekhar and Dr M Kirti who donated ancient records and books to the State Archives.
In his presidential speech, RK Jhaljit noted that its a thing of the past when one had to go to National Archives at New Delhi to access books and ancient records.
