The Regional Cross Breed Cattle Breeding Farm at Turibari, Sadar Hills, Senapati district which kicked off with much fanfare in 1975 under NEC has just 14 cows now producing just five |itres a day.
A media team which went to the farm today found 14 cows including six cows, three bulls, three calf and one hatam (young cow ).
The farm has four sheds and can maintain 100 cows.
The NEC project was constructed at a cost of Rs 33.53 lakhs and from 1979 the state had taken over the farm.
As the farm is located two kilometres away from the Kangpokpi main road it is not easily accessible and during rainy season the farm is cut completely cut off.
The farm has five staff and eight muster roll employees.
They pointed out that the muster roll employees have not been getting pay for the last 22 months.
There is no water supply at the farm as the water pipes had been taken away by miscreants every time water pipes were laid.
There is no telephone connection also.
The massive 300 acre cattle breeding farm remains a complete waste.
There is no full time Project Officer, doctor at the farm.
There is equipment; the two tractors which were purchased in the starting period are no longer functional.
The fund starved Veterinary department is also not available to look after the farm properly.
Every doctor posted at the farm managed to be transferred away even before reporting at the farm.
The entire complex could not be utilised to the full owing to the lack of cows.
The absence of a full time Project Officer and doctor hamper the functioning of the farm the officials said.
The officials said it is hard to maintain livestock.
