Imphal, October 16:
At least three passengers including two women have been killed on the spot while many others wounded when a passenger bus fell into a gorge in between Kasom Khullen and Dolaibung Ching in Ukhrul district at around 11 am today.
According to information received by the press here, the passenger bus was on its way to Imphal when the mishap occurred just 7 kms off Kasom Khullen.
Inspite of heavy rainfall, the bus started off from Kasom Khullen at around 10 am.
Just before reaching Dolaibung Ching, the bus cannot moved ahead due to muddy condition of the road.
Consequently, the passengers started getting down to walk on foot.
But before all the passengers could alight the bus slipped and fell into the gorge.
Three passengers including two women died on the spot while over 10 others sustained injuries.
Among the deceased, two of them have been identified as H Wungshim (55) of Nambashi Valley, Ukhrul and his wife H Hormila (45).The identity of another victim, a maiden could not be confirmed till the filling of this report.
Taking serious note of the alleged failure of the Government to look after the condition of the roads in Kasom Khullen sub-division inspite of having submitted numerous representations in the past, ex-secretary of Kasom Khullen Sub-Division Development Committee Jojo Robertson has categorically stated that the Government should be held responsible for loss of lives and injuries in the mishap.
