Used of mobile phones among the youths and students has become a cause of real concern as it led to increase instances of drug abuse among them, Psychiatrist Dr K Shantibala has stated while speaking during a academic awareness programme on 'Prevention of drug abuse and illicit trafficking' at Brighter Academy here today.
Participating in the programme held under the aegis of the Education Cell of All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA), Dr Shantibala, who spoke on the topic of 'Substance abuse in adolescent' observed that instead of facilitating the stated purpose of communication, that mobile phones have become an easy medium for the youngsters to get in touch with the drug peddlers.
The impressive minds of the youngsters are generally keen and curious enough to try and taste anything new including drugs and the possible of getting addicted is very high.
So the parents should be extra cautious in dealing with their adolescent children, she said.
Dr H Diamond Sharma who spoke on the theme of 'Effects of psychotropic drugs in the body' said SP tablets is the most wanted drugs among the youths of Manipur today.
Among organs of the human body, SP tablet affects the liver the most.
Abuse of SP tablets along with liquor is even more dangerous, he said.
Advocate Samarjit Hawaijam spoke on the topic of 'Illicit trafficking' during the programme which was presided over by the principal of the school KT.
