Commemorating the visit of former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam to Bunglon High School on this day last year, a day long programme was held with much enthusiasm and fervour.
Despite incessant rain, Bunglon School students and villagers of Bunglon and its surrounding areas gathered at the School campus to mark the occasion.
The programme rolled into motion with the singing of 'Sana Leibak Manipur', a Manipuri patriotic song by the students of the school.
The occasion was graced by Managing Director of National Charitable Hospital (Moirang) Y Surjit Kumar Khuman, Managing Director.
Delivering the welcome address, Gin Gangte, Headmaster and recipient of Jewel of India award said that, the visit of Dr.Kalam was a victory of truth that the former president hold close to his heart.
"No sensible person on earth would believe when the President said that he is visiting Bunglon", said Gin Gangte "but he proved what he said on october 16, 2006".Its a historic occasion not only in the history of Bunglon but Manipur, added Gangte.
The visit of Dr Kalam will be remembered by generations to come.
Deeply moved by the gesture of the former president to visit their school, school children came with smile and open heart to celebrate the occasion.
Even if the rain god smiles and incessant rain was the order of the day, students, staff and parents were at their best to celebrate the occasion.
The exquisite Komrem dance performed by the students was received with standing ovation by the gathering.
Another item that hogged the limelight was the superb performance dance of the Thadou-Kuki.
Exhibiting their skills and talents, the students also performed a short but meaningful skit on the theme 'Value of Quality Education'.
The students were at their best to keep the celebration alive and kicking.
Speaking as chief guest, Y Surjit Kumar Khuman termed the visit of Dr Kalam as 'most' historic and said that the people of Bunglon area are lucky souls as they now have pucca road which they would not have had if the president did not visit the place.
Underlining the importance of education, Surjit Kumar said that 'education is the sin quo non of building a good society'.
We need education in all spheres of life, be it cocking, cultivating the field, etc.

Elaborating on importance of education, Surjit Kumar added that 'school is the biggest industry for building human society'.
No state, nation or society could progress without education, said the chief guest.
It may be noted that, Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam, the then President of India visited Bunglon High School on his personal interest at the invitation of Gin Gangte.
Bunglon High School has become the first school in the whole of Manipur to have been visited by President of India.
Established in 1976, Bunglon High School is an English medium school and is recognised as a full-fledged high school by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur in 1990.During three decades of its existence, the school received host of dignitaries such as Governor Dr SS Sidhu, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Member of Manipur Human Rights Commission Justice (Retd) WA Shishak, just to mention a few.
In another session, a paper on "Living Sciences : What Dr.Kalam Has Taught Us" scripted by Superintendent of Police, CID/CB Dr.S Ibocha Singh, was presented before the audience.
The two-page resourceful paper noted, besides other, the life and philosophy of Dr.Kalam.
In conclusion, the paper quoted what Dr.Kalam has advised to the children : "When you are young, you need to have an ambition in life.
Think big.
Once you know what you would like to become, you have to sweat for it.
That means hard work while you are progressing.......".
A thanksgiving prayer was also offered by Pastor Shyam Sunder.
The lively and historic celebration concluded with the singing of national patriotic song "Sare Jahan Se Achha".
