The bandh called along the stretch of National Highway 53 between Imphal to Jiribam in protest against the killing of Mutum Brojen of Yurembam Awang Leikai concluded peacefully with no report of any untoward incident.
The bandh came into effect from 5 am today.
Mutum Brojen was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near the gate of his residence in the evening of Oct 12.The JAC against the brutal killing of Mutum Brojen Singh, Yurembam called the bandh in protest.
On account of the bandh, vehicular traffic along the said route remained affected for the day and barricades were put up by the bandh supporters.
The bandh was to be enforced till 6 pm, but at around 2.30 pm, police personnel came and prevailed upon the bandh supporters to stop blocking of the traffic.
Afterward, the local people continue their protest with staging of Wakat Meepham.
On the other hand, the body of Sabir Khan of Irong Chesaba Idgarh Leirak who was allegedly killed in the cross-firing between the security forces and the UGs near Irong Chesaba bridge under Mayang Imphal Police Station in the evening of Oct 14 has been taken away by his family members after postmortem at RIMS mortuary today.
The JAC formed in connection with the death had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Govt after a joint meeting with the Chief Minister yesterday.
